With this browser-based application, you can spell a clock time and get English words as the output. You can enter multiple clock times into the input box and convert them to several different text formats. You can choose whether to spell the numbers in hours, minutes, and seconds components and add words such as "midnight", "noon", and "o'clock". Additionally, you can either keep the input clock format or convert all times to 12-hr or 24-hr clock formats. Created by computer nerds from team Browserling.
This is a quick online utility for converting clock times and timer values to English text. For example, you can turn the clock value "12:30" into the text "twelve hours, thirty minutes" or into the shorter text "half past twelve". The first spelling variant can be created via the "Spell as a Computer" mode and the second via the "Spell as a Human" mode. The computer spelling mode creates a formal clock text format that always converts all non-zero clock components to text in the order going from hours to minutes to seconds, similar to how a robot would say time. By default, our spelling algorithm writes out both the numeric values in the clock time and the time components, converting "12:10" into "twelve hours, ten minutes". But you can also turn off the spell-components option and get "twelve, ten", or turn off the spell-numbers option and get "12 hours, 10 minutes". The human spelling mode converts clock times into colloquial English that people use in daily life. Here the spelling will be like "ten minutes past twelve" (i.e. 12:10), "fifteen minutes to five" (i.e. 4:45), or "half past sixteen and twenty seconds" (i.e. 16:30:20 for 24-hour European time). You can also deactivate the option to spell time components here and get "fifteen to five" or deactivate the option to spell numbers and get "15 minutes to 5". The program supports both the 12-hour (US clock) and 24-hour (European clock) time formats and it detects them automatically. As soon as you enter one or more timers (one per line), the program checks their format and outputs the spelling of each timer in the format it was originally entered. You can also switch to a mode that converts all timers to 12-hour spelling or 24-hour spelling. For the 12-hour clock times, you can additionally select a part-of-the-day indicator, such as "am/pm", "AM/PM", and "a.m./p.m." or longer phrases "at night", "in the morning", "in the afternoon", and "in the evening". In the last block of options, you can find another two convenient options. The checkbox "Use "Noon" and "Midnight"" turns the 00:00 and 24:00 times into the word "midnight", and the 12:00 time into the word "noon". It also uses these words when spelling "ten minutes past noon" (i.e. 12:10) or "five minutes to midnight" (i.e. 23:55 or 11:55pm). The checkbox "Add the Word "o'clock"" replaces the word "hours" with the word "o'clock" or adds it when no other time component suffix is used. For example, "two o'clock" (i.e. 2:00) or "four o'clock, ten minutes" (i.e. 4:10). Timeabulous!
In this example, we convert several clock times into the text format. We pronounce three 12-hour and three 24-hour times and keep the original clock format for each clock. We pronounce these clock times robotically by switching on the "Spell as a Computer" mode and convert all digits and numbers in hours, minutes, and seconds into words, as well as pronounce "hours", "minutes", "seconds" as well.
This example writes the words "o'clock" (instead of "hours"), "minutes", and "seconds" (spells time components) but it does not write the numeric time values as words and just prints the same numbers. When writing the time as text, it turns all times into a 12-hour clock format and uses the indicators "at night", "in the morning", "in the afternoon", and "in the evening" to specify the part of the day. It also converts the times "24:00" and "12:00" into words "midnight" and "noon".
In this example, we spell the given clock times using the shortest possible format, which is how people say the time when they are asked what time it is. We spell all time values using the 24-hour clock format and we add the words "midnight" and "noon" where applicable.
